Grants Available for Young Adult Survivors of Cancer

The SAMFund is pleased to announce grants for Young Adult Survivors of Cancer, between the ages of 17 and 35. Categories of funding include Educational Development, Professional Development, Health and Wellness, Independent Living, and there is a category for Miscellaneous. Deadline for applying is Wednesday, July 23 at 11:59 pm EST.

To apply, just download the Instruction Form and follow the steps to complete an online application. If you have eligibility questions or any difficulty with the online process, please email grants@thesamfund.org. We will help you through the process, or provide a hard copy of the application if need be. We want to make this process as easy as possible for everyone, so please contact the the Sam Fund if you need help.

Cindy Schneible Named Chief Executive Officer


Gilda’s Club North Texas has hired Cindy Schneible as its new chief executive officer, responsible for the leadership and management of the only Texas affiliate of a national program created in memory of comedienne Gilda Radner.  Gilda’s Club North Texas exists to provide a free meeting place where people with cancer and their families and friends gather for social and emotional support as a supplement to medical care.

Cindy SchneibleAs CEO, Schneible will work in partnership with the Board of Directors on many key initiatives and be responsible for the consistent realization of the organization’s mission and financial objectives.  She will oversee the general direction and lend support to the program director and staff. She will also supervise and execute fund development, create marketing strategies to support development, and handle administrative and financial decisions.

Schneible has deep roots within the non-profit sector having worked with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure since 1992 in several capacities, her most recent as vice president of development for the organization. In that role, Cindy reported to the president and CEO was responsible for developing a philanthropic culture and creating strategies, goals and objectives to support diversification and growth of revenue base for Komen for the Cure. She focused on individual philanthropic gifts, direct marketing and e-philanthropy.

“I am truly privileged to be selected as the CEO of Gilda’s Club North Texas,” said Schneible. “The organization is vital to our community. It offers a much needed service to the many men, women, and children touched by cancer either as afather, mother, brother, sister, daughter, son or friend. To have a place where anyone whose life is impacted by cancer can go, free of charge, for information,  and social and emotional support is something I am truly committed to supporting, overseeing and guiding.”

Schneible’s philanthropic experience began when she joined the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in 1992 as the Director of National Programs. Here she was responsible for the development and management of the foundation’s national Komen Race for the Cure® Series, the foundation’s signature program designed to raise awareness and funds to support community breast cancer projects and international research grants.  In 1997, Cindy was named vice president of cause marketing and sponsorship where she reported directly to the foundation president and CEO.  She has a B.A. in political science from Ohio State University.

“Cindy has a rich background in non-profit service as well as keen business experience,” said Alvin Wade, board chairman, Gilda’s Club North Texas.  “As CEO, she will strategically navigate our organization’s development and continue to guide Gilda’s Club as a successful and thriving non-profit. We are needed in this community. There are families and friends of people living with cancer that need Gilda’s unique emotional support.”

The Gilda’s Club North Texas program includes support groups for the individual with cancer, family groups for adults and children who are learning along with a loved one how to live with cancer, and groups for those who have had a loss due to cancer.  The program also provides networking groups for people with a particular type of cancer or special interest, lectures, workshops and social activities in a nonresidential home-like setting.  Children’s outreach services include "Noogieland," a program for kids of all ages that includes special activities for children with cancer or children affected by cancer in a family member.
